Bioblitz Astley Park

Despite the dreadful weather on the day, the Bioblitz we organised at Astley Park in April produced many good records. So we are doing it again! The intention is to record as many species as possible. We will be in the park from 10am until 4pm on august 24th. For the first 35 years of the Society's existence, Gordon Yates was a regular and a very popular speaker. He showed cine films, mainly of birds in Scotland and the Pennines. To mark our 40th anniversary, he has agreed to come out of retirement to visit us again.

Hic Bibi Local Nature Reserve is an eight hectare site developed on a former clay quarry and brickworks.  Although the site was created by the activities of man, the process of natural vegetation colonisation, combined with virtually no human intervention for nearly 50 years, has led to the development of a diverse and valuable ecology.
