Field Trip – Anglezarke Moor CANCELLED

June 18 at 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Regretfully, this event has been cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

A field trip led by Mark Fishwick.

Anglezarke Moor is at the Eastern limit of our recording area, and is a SSSI within the West Pennine Moors.   An important breeding ground for Curlew, and other species at this time of year include Cuckoo, Stonechat, Wheatear and Grasshopper Warbler.

The round trip is approximately 2.5 miles in length and is of moderate terrain with some stiles (including one particularly large one), a stone bridge without handrails, and the odd tussock, so decent walking boots and weather-appropriate attire are required.  The walk will take in the areas of Hempshaw’s, Sam Pasture, Simms and Old Rachel’s.

The postcode will only get you to the correct road, which is several miles long.  The parking spot is described below:

Head out of Rivington towards Belmont on Sheep House Lane, you will pass the stocks on your right, followed by the Chapel tea rooms.  The road rises gently and passes over a cattle grid and bends right then left.  You will pass Moses Cocker Farm on your left.  The road bends a little and then rises steeply, with a sharp left at the top, followed by a gentle right.  After 0.2 of a mile or so you will see a green footpath sign on your left, pointing towards a farm gate and expansive views over open moorland.  Park your car on the verge, taking care not to block access, and hiding any valuables.
