I have received the following e-mail which may be of interest:

To whom it may concern,

My name is Claire Ollett and I am the chairperson of Thebes (The Blackburn Egyptology Society). I am contacting you about an upcoming lecture that may be of interest to some of your members.

On Monday 6th October, renowned ornitho-Egyptologist, John Wyatt is coming to speak for the society about "The Birds of Ancient Egypt". John has been researching the birds of Ancient Egypt for the last 10 years and his talk traces how he has now identified over 245 species from the amazing mummies, bone remains, hieroglyphs, art, sculpture and literature of that country, 2000 to 5000 years ago. Exciting new discoveries have come to light along the way and some, like birds’ reactions to climate change then, are relevant up to today.

We are therefore inviting people to come and see how ornithology has opened up new doors to the understanding of Egyptology and vice versa. With beautiful birds, stunning ancient art and mummies – this talk has something for everyone!

The lecture is at 7.30pm (doors open 7-7.15pm) on Monday 6th October in the Hornby Lecture Theatre, which is on the first floor of Blackburn Central Library (Town Hall Street, Blackburn, BB2 1AG). Entrance is £4 per person and everyone is welcome. There will also be a raffle, complimentary refreshments and the opportunity to buy some Nature Foldouts on the wildlife of Ancient Egypt (including John's on the birds of the Nile Valley) for £5 each (or cheaper if bought in sets), some cards with bird paintings done by Jackie Garner (4 for £5) and some limited edition prints of bird paintings (£45-£50).

I should be very grateful if you would make your members aware of this event and our open invitation! We do have a poster advertising the lecture and if you want to provide an e-mail address I am more than happy to send a copy to you. If you, or any of your members, require any further details then you can contact us via the e-mail address above, you can call myself on 07932 074441 or our Secretary, Michael Eastwood, on 01706 217707.

Thank you in anticipation for your time in reading this and any help that you can provide.

Kindest regards,

Claire Ollett
