R.Yarrow Eccleston. 21/5

Post by John Edwards »

Recently the only views I've had of the female Goosander and chicks have been of them disappearing around a bend in the river, so I was pleased to see them out in the open and finally get some pics! Also yesterday a Peregrine circling above my house it was there long enough for me to go in the house get my camera and take a pic of its rear end as it flew off to the South East. Also over my house (off Doctors Lane) a Raven flying West on Sunday (18th).

I didn't see any Goosanders today but 2 male Mandarins were at the weir along with 30 drake Mallards. A pair of Canada Geese had goslings, I counted 4 btu there may have been more hidden by the vegetation. 2 Lesser Whitethroat singing in the Lily Pond field and 1 in the next field nearer to syd Brook, 3 Curlew flying over calling were the first I've seen for a while.

Lovely shots John, it's great to see a goosander family like this and the youngsters look a good size too.

Thanks Ivan I was quite pleased with the pics I got and yes I think their big enough now to assume that most of them will survive into adults.
