Yarrow Valley Park 23.12.12

Post by Neil Southworth »

Birkacre:- A large Beech tree has fallen across the footpath on the Burgh Wood side of Big Lodge, presumably brought down by the incessant rain. The resident Mute Swan family appears to have seen off the intruders so we are now back to 2 adults and 3 juveniles. Two male and two female Tufted Duck were on Big Lodge, and a Common Gull was among the 100 or so Black-headed Gulls, one of which had a full black cap. The feeding station attracted 2 or 3 Nuthatch, several Great Tit, Blue Tit and Coal Tit, and several Chaffinch. A Treecreeper was feeding on a tree at the back, and a Jay and a GS Pecker were calling from the woodland. A Kestrel was calling by the side of Burgh Wood just above Top Lodge, and a Mistle Thrush rattled its way along the river.
Common Bank Lodge:-Little Grebe, Mallard 18, Coot 3, Moorhen 3. A Dipper flew through.
