Common Bank Lodge

Post by Neil Southworth »

The pair of Little Grebe have 4 tiny chicks which didn't look big enough to be out of the egg never mind on the water. A pair of Coot also had at least two recently hatched chicks. Also on the lodge were the pair of Mute Swan, 7 Mallard and a Moorhen.

Had wondered why the second adult had gone missing for a while. Hopefully this second brood do better than last year's. At least one of the first brood youngsters was on the lodge this morning.
I make it that on the lodge and Yarrow Meadows this year:
Little Grebe - 1 pair, 2 broods (3 and 4)
Moorhen - 2 pairs, 2 broods each (4, 2, 3, 3)
Coot - 1 pair, 2 broods (3, 2)
Mallard - 1 pair, 2 broods (9, ?)
Mandarin - 1 pair, 1 brood (5)
MallardxMandarin - 1 pair, 1 brood (all perished)
