House martin/swift survey 2020

Post by paul b »

Examined all nest sites from last year, and with mixed results.
Five HM sites either abandoned or with no sign of usage but three new ones found. Evidence of predation at one nest -dead chicks- probably by corvid of some kind.

Plenty of activity from swifts in mainly small groups, though there was one of 17 birds too. We think these were all juveniles -assuming they were bred locally, a good number. No evidence of actual nest sites.

Also seen - dragonfly (probable hawker) at roof height; pipistrelle bat - St Peter's club, Eaves lane

Thanks to Neil and Paul
