Croston/mawdesley moss .
Good to get out after todays heavy rain , the only wader seen was a single curlew on the great close fields , mallards with young on 2 ditches one of the broods had 4 small duckling and the other had 2 well grown young , 5 buzzard ( 2 young birds together on the ground near to alma wood ) swallows and house martins feeding in several locations , 2 corn buntings in song , several yellowhammer and reed bunting , whitethroat carrying food , chiffchaff calling in several locations , good to see another family group of grey partridge ( at least 4 birds ) on the finney ( yesterdays birds were on the mawdesley side ) will be interesting to see how many coveys there are this autumn / winter considering the wet summer we have had which can devastate partridge clutches .
