Re: Anglezarke Reservoir 23.02.2024

My thoughts are a 1st winter Lesser Black-backed Gull, but one at the paler end of the spectrum. Bill and structure doesn't look massive enough for GBB, but then always useful to have another gull for comparison.

Re: Lower Rivington Reservoir yesterday

The very dirty, smudgy head suggests argentatus Herring.

Walks in the woods this afternoon to keep out of the wind. Finches the order of the day - Siskin and Goldfinch in Astley Park, with noisy pairs of GS Woodpecker and Nuthatch. Large mixed tit flock near the play area including Treecreeper. 28 Goosander on Astley Park Lake. Various finches moving thro...

Re: Redcar Tarn (nr Keighley)

Interesting bird. Different to Pete's as was said on twitter. So much variability in large gulls but you can quickly find an online Caspian that looks like yours. The Queen's Park bird is an interesting individual as that seems more advanced in moult.

Two Grey Heron and single Grey Wagtail on and around the river. A very cold Lower Rivington for a short visit as all th...

Highlight this afternoon was a flight view of Little Owl and alarm calling as a Common Buzzard disturbed it. Dipper, Kingfisher and Grey Heron on the river and still several small groups of Siskin mobile along the meadows. 20+ Redwing on the edge of Parkers Wood.

Yarrow Meadows

Good numbers of birds on the meadows at the moment. Two large mixed tit flocks with Blue, Great, Coal and LT Tit with Nuthatch and Goldcrest. Goldcrest numbers down after a mini fall earlier in the week. Brambling this afternoon the finch highlight, with Siskin groups regular all week - largest grou...

Spurn - 22/10/23

The recent blast of easterlies meant a trip over to the east coast was needed. Avoiding dodgy Bunting's at Flamborough, an early start saw me arriving at Kilnsea for dawn. Thrushes, Sparrows and Finches everywhere first thing, slowing down as the day warmed up. Highlights: American Wigeon, LT Duck a...

Moth trap had 3 moths in it - one new for the garden - Feathered Thorn. Also Red-green Carpet and Straw Dot. Early start up Winter Hill.
