Interesting info on shelducks .

Interesting post on the martin mere website about shelducks , apparently they migrate to holland / germany to moult ( up to 200,000) then head back to Britain for the winter , you learn something new everday :) .

eccleston syd brook.

Had a mooch around my local patch on the hunt for a spotted flycatcher but had no luck , several tit flocks , nuthatches , chaffinch , chiffchaff , plenty of butterflies small copper , speckled wood , peacock , large whites , and a couple of large dragonflies buzzing around .

Late evening visit , lots of the grass verges have been mown , several buzzard and kestrel sightings , sparrowhawk seen twice , 14 greylag geese were on the ever decreasing great close pools ( several young birds among them ) , 1 mallard with 3 small young on a ditch , 2 mallard nearby and what can ...

The partridge were on the track behind alma wood ( the corner nearest to the wing turbines ) the other partridge family ive seen were on the setaside field near to the railway crossing along finney lane .

No sign of any chats this morning , good to see some wader movement 8 snipe dropped in on mawdesley moss and 6 lapwing passed over , sparrowhawk and buzzard seen with prey items , whitethroats seen in most ditches , several yellowhammer .

No sign of the whinchat last night , spotted the grey partridge family again ( regular on the farm tracks picking grit up ) the small youngster managed a short flight with its parents , the young buzzards were making plenty of noise , lots of butterflies mainly peacocks which were feeding on ragwort...

The whinchat was south along the track past alma wood from the railway crossing fist seen at close quarters on the edge of the track before it flew in to the wheat field .

Male whinchat on the mawdesley side this evening last seen perched in a wheat field , peregrine was perched on a pylon for around 2 hours , found the grey partridge family on the mawdesley side again ( exactly same spot ) but sadly it looked like they were down to one young , 5 corn bunting , 2 yell...
