BOOK REVIEW

Chris Packham's 'Back Garden Nature Reserve' - published by New Holland

ISBN 1 85974 5202

I borrowed this book from the library in order to review it, but I shall definitely be buying a copy. It is a wonderful publication. Chris Packham commences in the same easy style he has on TV, by imagining he is an invertebrate, and then considering how he would like his neighbourhood to be. He then goes on to have sections on birds, mammals, invertebrates, ponds, plants and photography. He is not afraid to deal with areas where some would disagree with him. The perennial bad guys, i.e. cats, magpies and sparrowhawks are all dealt with. To discover how, read the book yourself. At a time when going out to see wildlife has been impossible due to foot and mouth restrictions, Chris shows us how to bring more wildlife to our doorstep. As the wording on the cover truthfully says: "offers something for children and adults, gardeners, bird watchers, photographers and all wildlife enthusiasts."
