SECRETARY'S REPORT

A change in venue for our indoor meetings was forced on us unexpectedly during 2001. After many happy years at the Howard, redevelopment necessitated finding a new venue at short notice. We were fortunate to be able to book St Mary's Parish Centre for the meetings even though this meant changing our meeting nights to Thursday from Wednesday.

I think it is fair to say that the move has been successful. The room is comfortable and very suitable for pour needs. Attendances were not significantly affected. Hopefully, as time goes by, new members will be attracted, as access to St Mary's is clearly easier for many than was the Howard.

In last year's report, Joyce Riley announced her intention to step down as membership secretary after sterling service over many years. Her workload - which was considerable - has been split between committee members and we have coped (just!). I appealed last year for more help on the committee and I repeat that appeal now. This is a good opportunity to register the Society's thanks to Joyce for past efforts.

The success of the Millennium Booklet continued to the extent that a reprint was required. At the time of writing, almost all booklets have been sold and the profits are waiting to be used on local projects to aid wildlife. Hopefully, in next year's report, there will be details of how the money was used.
