SECRETARY'S REPORT

The main focus of attention within the committee in year 2000 was the publication of our booklet - "Chorley Naturally" - which was conceived to mark the new Millennium and to celebrate the Society's 21st anniversary.

It was finally published in July after many late nights and not a few cross words between those responsible for its production! In the end we all thought the effort had been well expended and that the booklet was a worthwhile venture. The initial print run in fact sold out - thanks in the main to our treasurer, Stan Llewellin, who worked tirelessly to have it placed in many retail outlets locally. A reprint was planned in the first half of 2001.

The money raised by the sale of the booklet has enabled us to set up a fund dedicated to the benefit of wildlife and the environment in the Chorley area. We are considering ideas for its use as this annual report goes to print.

Having mentioned the tremendous efforts made by one committee member, it may be a good time to ask for more help from members in the running of the Society. One key committee member plans to retire from the committee in September 2001 and another will probably only stay only another year or two beyond that. These members will be difficult to replace because they have shown such enthusiasm for the Society for 15 years and more.

Who will take on their work? It will be shared out amongst the rest of the committee, but more help will be needed. Time for new members to step in.
